Profile

Swissair, S.A./AG was for many years the national airline of Switzerland.
It was formed from a merger between Balair and Ad Astra Aero (To the Stars), in 1931. For most of its 71 years, Swissair was one of the major international airlines and known as the "Flying Bank" due to the financial stability of the airline, causing it to be regarded as a Swiss national symbol and icon. The airline thrived into the 1980s, when it was one of the "big five" Western European airlines. It was headquartered at Zurich Airportand in Kloten.
In 1997 the Swissair Group was renamed SAirGroup (although it was again renamed Swissair Group in 2001), with four subdivisions: SAirlines (to which Swissair,Crossair, Balair and FlightLease belonged), SAirServices, SAirLogistics and SAirRelations. The airline was kept alive until 31 March 2002 by the Swiss Federal government.
On 1 April 2002 successor airline Swiss International Air Lines was founded on the base of former Crossair, taking over most of the routes, planes and staff of the former Swissair. Today, The SAirGroup company still exists and is in the process of being liquidated. Swiss International Air Lines was taken over by the German airline Lufthansa in 2005.

SWISS serves 104 destinations in 48 countries all over the world from its Zurich hub and the further Swiss international airports of Basel and Geneva.

Online check in:
Check in online on your computer, tablet or smartphone at swiss.com or using the SWISS app. Whether you are at home or out and about, travelling with baggage or without. Web check-in opens 23 hours before departure. How it works Check in quickly and without having to queue. Online check-in will take you to your boarding pass in just a few steps.
Step 1: Log in to swiss.com with your name and booking reference or the number of your e-ticket. Then select web check-in under the booking details.
Step 2: Check in up to 8 other people.
Step 3: Choose your seat.
Step 4: Enter additional passport information, depending on your destination.
Step 5: Have your boarding pass sent to a smartphone as a mobile boarding pass or print it out Step 6 Take your baggage to a separate counter before your departure.

Airport check in:
At Zurich Airport you will find our check-in desks in Terminals 1 and 3. At every SWISS destination in the world there will be at least one check-in desk for you. Opening times will vary depending on the airport and flight duration. Be sure to note the check-in time of your flight well in advance.

Worldwide, there are separate check-in desks for SWISS Business and SWISS First passengers. The same applies for "Miles & More" status customers and Star Alliance Gold members. Check in quickly and without long waiting periods. In Zurich, we welcome our First Class passengers in the exclusive SWISS First Check-in Lounge. Check in using a machine:
The machine will guide you and any travelling companions through the check-in process in just a few steps.
Step 1: Register by passport, ticket number or "Miles & More" card.
Step 2: Choose your seat
Step 3: Check in up to 8 other people
Step 4: Print your boarding pass and, depending on local regulations, your baggage tags
Step 5: Drop baggage at the desk
If you have already checked in, you can change reserved seats or your "Miles & More" number at the check-in machine.

Check in for codeshare flight:
The check-in times for codeshare flights are set by the operating airlines. Be sure to note the check-in time for your flight well in advance.

Refund policy

SWISS e-tickets and/or additional services booked over SWISS.COM or a SWISS Service Center can be refunded here. For e-tickets booked via travel agency, please contact the agency concerned. Once a refund has been requested, the ticket is no longer valid and no rebooking is possible. The booking must be cancelled before you request a refund. Please read the Conditions of Carriage. Follow this link to cancel bookings for the relevant passengers.
A refund service fee of CHF 25/EUR 20/USD 30/CAD 30 will apply in addition to any penalties related to the tariff rules. For exceptions refer to para. 10.2 of the Conditions of Carriage for any refund made on/after 01.07.2011.
Apply with the post-flight complaints and compliments form for compensation for other direct costs or extra expenses according to EU regulations.
